The Inaugural Post (I want to be Like Mike...)

All right here we go...
If you know anything about me then you know who Mike K. (Dallas Mike) is. If you don't know who he is you need to ask someone. Outside of my wife he is my rock. Even though I am technically four months older, he is like my big brother. He has a crazy hobbie, he is a very insane type of runner. Ever here of trail running? It's nuts (seriously). These Trail Runners go out and run through hiking trails, up mountains, down the craziest terrain imaginable. Oh, and they do all this over the course of a 50 or 100 mile race. Yeah, you read right 100 miles. This isn't over the span of 3 or 4 days it's got to be done in like 30 hours. Hey, to each their own I guess but my body couldn't run 2 miles to the beer store let alone 100 miles in a day and a half.
Mike has run a hand full of 50 and 60 mile races but for different reasons has never gone the 100 miles he's been chasing for over a year. The Rocky Raccoon Trail Run was held in Huntsville (TX.) State Park and Mike was signed up to test the 100 mile challenge. Both his Family and ours along with In-Law's and other close friends met there to camp and support Forest, I mean Mike, tackle his goal. We should have more pictures but...we still have to get used to the blog thing.
Jamie, Virgina, and I ran around all night meeting Mike at various "aid stations" around the course and we had a ball. I love spending time with V. and her and Jamie have a similar story as Mike and I do (but that's another post). Anyway the man of the hour (or day in this situation) had goals laid out as only Mike could. He was amazing. It is all a blur but he beat or met all five of his loop (the course is a 20 mile loop, five times) goals. His goal was to complete the race in 26 to 28 hours (good god man!). This guy KILLED his goal and finished in 22 hours 45 minutes. ARE you kidding me? Any way here is some of the trip.

The gang seeing Mike off (4:30AM)...

V. getting one last hug in (there was a chance it could have been her last)...

Mike at the first loop (20 miles down 80 to go!)

V. and I getting ready for one of the pit stops from Mike...

Joe and Hami being one with nature (it's the woods man, this is what we do!)

Home Sweet Home
start: Saturday 5:00AM Finish: Sunday 3:45AM (22 hours 45 minutes) Could I be prouder of my friend?
Hey Uncle Mike way to go....
